The National Quality Forum (NQF) has served as a major vehicle for the creation of performance measures. To date, in the discipline of critical care medicine, few performance measures have been implemented. This “measures gap” became a focus of the efforts of the Critical Care Societies Collaborative (CCSC). National Quality Forum (NQF) is a United States-based non-profit membership organization that promotes patient protections and healthcare quality through measurement and public reporting. It was established in 1999 based on recommendations by the President's Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry. NQF’s membership comprises over 400 organizations Highlights of NQF work in 2015 included NQS recommendations, improving quality and efficiency in measurement, recommending measures for use in federal programs, indentifying measure gaps in HHS programs, coordinating with measurement initiatives implemented by other payers, and moving the field of measurement science forward. The measure maintenance process is guided by expertise and advice provided by the Perinatal Care Measure Maintenance Technical Advisory Panel.
