When I first noticed the U.S. housing bubble in spring of 2001, I never imagined it would last as long or get as big as it did. Read on to find out more about real estate prices. Historical housing price data suggest ongoing increases in housing prices. But these numbers don't tell the whole truth. The chart below The above chart (click to expand) shows a 100-year history of residential real estate prices in the U.S. The graph is based on Robert Shiller's historical housing index, which I have summarized to yearly data. As he readily admits, his data is imperfect. However, it's the best source of long-term housing data that I am aware of.
